On Fell Dark Wings is the latest episode in my Chronicles of Toxandria. Set 3000 years before When Dragons Dream, it serves as a prequel to that book and introduces the dragon, Zaran-Gaddin to the world. This is the first of a new cycle of four books set in 1003AN, and this period in time is markedly different to what you may have read so far. Magic remains a powerful force in the world, and so sorcerers, those able to manipulate it, are prominent in society. But magic does not come without a cost. In order to acquire access to the delegated powers of the gods, sorcerers must make a grim bargain with those creatures that serve as doorkeepers to such power- those creatures known as intercessors. These demi-gods drive a hard bargain and impose on each sorcerer a 'doom' which may be trivial or severe. In some it may result in the loss of a limb, or the loss of one of the senses, but in some their powers might come at the cost of a deeper more psychological burden. In Fell Dark Wings, a very curious triad, a famous but haunted sorcerer, a sorceress who has forgotten that she is a sorceress, and a struggling poet, come together to work as a team as their realm faces civil strife and an evil sorceress threatens to unleash a creature of huge destructive power upon the world.
